Presidio Nuestra Señora de Los Dolores was built in 1716 by Capt. Domingo Ramon, repaired and enlarged in 1721 by the Marquis of San Miguel de Aguayo, and abandoned about 1730. The Spanish government built it as a fort and headquarters for soldiers to guard the East Texas missions and the borders of the New Phillipines.
