Lutcher United Methodist Church was the first Protestant church in the River Parishes. It was established in 1898 through the efforts of William H. Curtis, who was later appointed its first pastor. This original church building, constructed of heart cypress, was dedicated on May 5, 1901. The church, built in 1901, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior on February 13, 1992.
