Cox Country Grade School was named after Henry Cox, a farmer and jeweler who donated the land. A one-room, one-teacher school stood on this corner until 1976, and teachers served the surrounding community there until 1954. It was dedicated to Blanche Maher, who taught from 1943 until 1954 and was remembered as the most noted and beloved teacher. Her teaching was rooted in the principle that an honest failure is better than a sneaking success.
