Taum Sauk Mountain State Park in Missouri's St. Francois Mountains includes Taum Sauk Mountain, the state's highest point, and connects with a broader upland landscape that includes Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park and the Bell Mountain Wilderness Area. It is a major access point for the Ozark Trail and draws both backcountry hikers and shorter-term visitors with a paved path to the high point, picnic areas, a rustic campground, and a lookout tower. Mina Sauk Falls, Missouri's highest waterfall, is another notable feature, though it varies seasonally. In 2005, a reservoir failure sent a billion gallons of water through parts of the park and nearby areas.
