Battleship Butte is a 5,802-foot mountain in eastern Utah, about six miles north of Green River, rising steeply at the southern end of the Beckwith Plateau along the Desolation Canyon Wilderness Study Area. Near the Green River, it stands out for its sharp relief, climbing about 1,400 feet in less than half a mile. Its summit and cliffs are made of Mesaverde Group sandstone from the Late Cretaceous, above softer Mancos Shale. Named for a profile thought to resemble a battleship, it is a prominent landmark in a cold semi-arid desert on the edge of one of the largest wilderness study areas in the contiguous United States.
