Louis Sedentop arrived in America from Germany in 1835, settled on eighty acres in Montgomery County, married Honora Leonard in 1859, raised nine children, and built his home and improvements on the south side of what later became Farmersville; on part of the land he donated, the village was started and laid out in 1887, and he was later called the Father of Farmersville. The community's history also includes a surviving small length of the first Route 66, whose construction began in 1926; Farmersville High School, whose first graduating class was in 1923 and final class in 1962, with a gymnasium built in 1936 that remains in use; the original Charles McAnamey Grocery and General Merchandise Store, built in 1895 and later home to several businesses; and the first drug store, opened by Mr. Johnson in 1910, later owned by Frank Millburg and then by Lela and Alvin Heisman, with Lela operating it for over forty years and being honored in 1977 with Roy Martintoni for seventy years of combined service. Other important parts of village life included Art's Restaurant; Irish Days celebrations beginning in 1907 and expanding over the years with attractions and contests; the Opera House, believed to have been built in 1910, long used for entertainment and community events before restoration efforts began in 2011 and the building was purchased in 2021 by Brad and Cassandra Rovey for their business; and the railroad corridor built in 1887 as the St. Louis and Chicago Railroad Company line, later joined by Inter Urban Railroad service in 1907 and now used as the Green Diamond Trail.
