Cascade Falls in Jackson, Michigan, is a large man-made waterfall and illuminated water display created through the vision of William Sparks and the William and Matilda Sparks Foundation. Inspired by Barcelona’s Magic Fountain of Montjuïc, it transformed former bog land into a recreation and meditation space and opened in 1932 before a crowd of 25,000. The engineered installation features multiple falls, fountains, reflecting pools, and choreographed summer performances that have attracted millions. Repeated restoration campaigns since the late 1960s have updated lighting, sound, water systems, access, and safety, while ongoing repairs and fundraising address aging concrete and infrastructure.
