At a time when many school districts cut arts programs due to budget reductions, New Albany expanded cultural offerings to students and residents through the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts by means of a unique collaboration. The New Albany Community Foundation and School Superintendent, Dr. Ralph Johnson, led an effort that brought together the schools, Village of New Albany, Plain Township, and the Foundation. The New Albany Company donated land in the center of town contiguous to the learning community campus, and local families and companies established endowments through the Foundation to sustain quality cultural and educational programming. Local benefactor John G. McCoy named the Center to honor his late wife, who was a champion of education and culture.
