One of the original wagon sets used to haul borax out of Death Valley traveled 165 miles through desolate mountains and blistering deserts to the nearest railroad spur in Mojave, California. A round trip took 20 days and delivered 20 tons of borax. These teams worked steadily from 1883 to 1888.
