Coe Glacier occupies the north slope of Mount Hood in Oregon’s Cascade Range, extending from about 10,500 to 6,400 feet above sea level. Measurements made through the twentieth century and early twenty-first century show that it has clearly retreated. From 1907 to 2004, the glacier lost 15 percent of its surface area, and its terminus receded about 390 meters, or 1,280 feet. Its decline forms part of the larger pattern of glacier shrinkage on Mount Hood and throughout the Cascades.
