Royse City’s second calaboose, or jail, was a small concrete-and-stucco structure used to house prisoners until the 1940s. Records indicate that it dates from before 1921 and replaced an earlier frame one-room calaboose located about one block west. Measuring 16 by 8 feet, it contained two equal-size cells, each with two barred windows. Most people held there were jailed for minor crimes, while more dangerous criminals were transported by railroad to Dallas. In recent years, the building was stabilized and restored, preserving a unique part of Royse City history.
