Rosemount Museum in Pueblo, Colorado, preserves the former home of John A. Thatcher, a businessman who built his fortune in dry goods, banking, mining, and cattle ranching after moving from Pennsylvania. Built from 1891 to 1893, the large pink rhyolite mansion remained the Thatcher family’s home for decades and retains much of its original character, furnishings, and fine wood interiors. Its third floor houses the Andrew McClelland collection, including an Egyptian mummy. After the death of the family’s last surviving child in 1968, the mansion was given for public use, and in 1969 a nonprofit house museum was established. It became one of Pueblo County’s first National Register listings in 1974.
