Cooks Ferry was established in 1859 by George Washington Cook and operated by the Cook family until 1918. It was then sold to the Flemings and bought by Christy and Morrow in 1919. It was known as Shippingport Ferry until its last trip in April 1964, when a bridge was built across the Ohio River.
