Big Spring Park in Cedartown, Georgia, is centered on a large limestone spring that has shaped the town since the earliest period of white settlement in northwest Georgia. Settlers gathered around the spring and first called their town Big Spring. Asa Prior bought the surrounding land in 1834 and deeded the spring and nearby property to the newly chartered city of Cedartown in 1852. The spring can produce up to four million gallons of water a day, supplying about 10,000 people in the area. Later developed as a park, the site remains significant for both its natural resources and its place in Cedartown’s history.
