Rice Hope was a famous rice and indigo plantation of colonial and Revolutionary times and the home of George McIntosh, son of John McIntosh Mor of Darien and brother of General Lachlan McIntosh. George McIntosh served as official surveyor for St. Andrew`s Parish, a member of the Commons House of Assembly, a member of the First Provincial Congress of Georgia, and a member of the Council of Safety. During the Revolution, the British burned George McIntosh's home at Rice Hope and ran off his slaves and stock.
