Nicholas Ruxton Moore commanded the Baltimore Light Dragoons during the Revolution and attained the rank of Captain. He took an active part in suppressing the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794, and that year purchased Bosley’s Adventure, a 350 acre farm west of Roland’s Run, north of present Lake Roland. A member of the State Legislature from 1801 to 1802, he served in Congress from 1803 to 1811 and again from 1813 to 1815. As a Lieutenant Colonel at the outbreak of the War of 1812, he was appointed commandant of the 6th Regiment Cavalry District of Maryland. His grave near Circle and Ruxton Roads is no longer marked.
