Benjamin Ellicott was born in Bucks County, Penna., on April 17th, 1765, and died at Williamsville, N.Y., on December 10th, 1827. His life was closely connected with the history of the western portion of this state. Together with his brother Joseph, he completed the survey of the tract known as the Holland Purchase. Respected and esteemed by those among whom he lived, he was one of their earliest representatives in Congress.
