High Cliff State Park is a 1,187-acre Wisconsin state park near Sherwood on the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago and the only state-owned recreation area on the lake. Its defining feature is the Niagara Escarpment, whose limestone cliffs rise above the water and provide broad views from trails and an observation tower. The park supports many outdoor activities, but it is also significant for its older human history. On top of the escarpment, the High Cliff Mounds preserve part of an original group of 30 effigy mounds, including long-tailed, conical, panther, bird, and likely bear forms, and a statue of the Ho-Chunk leader Red Bird overlooks the lake.
