History
2
Alexander Negley, born in Germany in 1734 and of Swiss ancestry, came to eastern Pennsylvania in 1739, served in the War of the Revolution, settled on the site of Highland Park in 1778, and died on Nov. 3, 1809. His wife, Mary Ann Burkstresser, was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, on June 20, 1741, and died on June 17, 1829. Both are interred here. The burial ground, on the former homestead of Alexander Negley, is the resting place of about fifty early settlers of the East Liberty Valley, remembered as noble Christian pioneers who molded the character of the community during its struggling and formative period.
