In Oak Park, Illinois, Frank Lloyd Wright’s home and studio was both his family residence and the workplace where his early architectural practice took shape. Built in 1889 as a modest house and repeatedly enlarged, it grew with his family and later gained a studio after he opened his own practice. There Wright and his associates designed many works tied to his early career and the rise of the Prairie style. The connected buildings also reveal his architectural transition, from the house’s more traditional character to the studio’s distinct Prairie style. Restored to its 1909 appearance, the complex preserves the place where Wright tested and refined central ideas.
