On Dec. 25 at 4:00 PM, Washington crossed with commanders John Sullivan, Nathanael Greene, John Glover, and Henry Knox, along with 2,400 troops, 18 cannons, baggage, and approximately 50 to 75 horses. By Dec. 26 at 4:00 AM, Washington and his men had crossed the river, several hours later than expected, and proceeded to march toward Trenton. At 6:00 AM, Washington divided his troops for a two-pronged attack. By 8:00 AM, his party was just outside Trenton, where he pointed to a nearby house and ordered the men to open fire, beginning the Battle of Trenton. By 9:30 AM, the battle was over, with 900 captured Hessians and about 100 Hessians dead.
