Lee County honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their country, invoking the words, “Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his country.” Those named include Henry Brown, C.W. Lauderdale, and James B. Robinson of the Korean War; Carey C. Anthony, Terry H. Bates, Calvin W. Biles, James L. Brown, Jr., William J. Eason, Patrick M. Garner, James F. Honeycutt, Ernest May, and T.F. Springfield, Jr. of the Vietnam War; Julius Benham, Jr., Elmer Brewer, Oscar B. Caruth, Henry H. Jones, Mat Jones, Nathaniel Jones, Robert F. Lewis, Burley Smith, and Clyde Young of World War I; and 1st Lt. Tyler Parten of Operation Enduring Freedom. The west side is devoted to World War II as an honor roll of the dead.
