Thirty five steps removed from the original Kiwanis stairway were set into the benches on either side of this section, while one hundred fourteen steps remain in their initial location on the upper west end of the bluff. The plaque and the small marker dedicating the stairway in 1929 are embedded in a limestone block from the stone quarry immediately to the west, where Frank J. Linne produced cut stone from 1870 to 1890 for some of Red Wing's early buildings, foundations, and walls. That quarry also supplied limestone for two kilns at the foot of the bluff directly below. In 1982, working with the City of Red Wing, the Kiwanis Club again sold named steps to its members and to the public to complete the stairway on this steep area of the Barn Bluff summit trail.
