In 1666, the first white men fortified this island. Col. Seth Warner and Capt. Remember Baker were eminent Green Mountain Boys and patriots remembered for their sacrifice and valor. In 1775, General Montgomery campaigned in the area and encamped near this spot with 1200 men.
