Blackwelder Hospital provided health care to Caldwell County citizens on this site from 1931 until October of 1988. Medical offices owned by Caldwell-UNC Health Care occupy the Boundary Street and College Avenue corner of the park in keeping with the history of this site. In 2012, artist Thomas Sayre created the earthcast sculpture "Across the Grain," which occupies the Church Street and Harper Avenue corner of the park. The sculpture's name recognizes the role of the furniture industry in the history of Lenoir and celebrates the energy and resourcefulness that will drive the spirit and economy of the future. Financed by private donations, the sculpture's donors are recognized in the winding stone path that leads to the 26 foot sculpture.
