Goose Creek Grasslands
Nature
Goose Creek Grasslands is a seventy-acre nature sanctuary in Lenawee County, Michigan, protected and maintained by the Michigan Nature Association. It is especially valued for its prairie fen, a rare wetland habitat found only in the glaciated Midwest. More than 200 plant species have been recorded there, including native orchids, pitcher plants, and summer wildflowers such as blazing star, sunflowers, and Joe-Pye weed. The area also supports diverse birdlife, with hawks, meadowlarks, red-winged blackbirds, and yellow warblers regularly present. Its significance lies in the unusual habitat it preserves and the rich variety of life found within a relatively small area.
