Hermiston Butte rises above the west side of Hermiston, Oregon, offering broad views from its summit over the city and surrounding area. Hiking trails lead to the top, and an access road reaches the butte but is closed to public automobile use. The butte is protected within the 40-acre Butte Park, which also includes soccer fields, a large playground, and an aquatic center. Beyond serving as a local lookout and hiking destination, it is an important community recreation area where Hermiston High School's cross country team hosts the annual Butte Challenge foot race on courses of varying lengths.
