Jump Off Joe is a prominent butte in the Horse Heaven Hills south of Kennewick, Washington, visible across much of the Tri-Cities region and into parts of Oregon. Part of the Yakima Fold Belt within the Olympic–Wallowa Lineament, it is formed mainly of Columbia River Basalt Group lava flows laid down 10 to 15 million years ago. Later Ice Age floods from Glacial Lake Missoula helped shape the surrounding landscape, including nearby Wallula Gap. Rising nearly 2,000 feet above the Columbia River in a semi-arid, often windy setting, the butte is also an important regional communications site with radio and television towers serving much of the Columbia Basin.
