Dixie Schoolhouse in San Rafael, Northern California, is a preserved one-room schoolhouse built in 1864 in the Victorian Italianate style. Created as the project of Irish immigrant and Marin County pioneer James S. Miller, it reflects early public education and the rural community that once surrounded it. Its name has uncertain origins, with local traditions attributing it to Southern carpenters, to Mary Dixie, a local Indian woman, or to the French word for ten. Classes met there from 1864 to 1958, and the first Dixie School District took its name from the school before becoming the Miller Creek Elementary School District in 2020.
