The Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael, California, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright to unite county services on a single campus and became his largest public commission and one of his few fully unified civic designs. Chosen in 1957 after heated political debate, the project continued after Wright’s 1959 death under associates including Aaron Green and Wesley Peters. Built in stages from 1960 to 1976, the complex is known for its pink walls, blue roof, arches, glazed walls, and library rotunda with a gold spire. It also witnessed the violent 1970 courthouse attacks and is now recognized as a major late Wright work.
