Dege Peak is a 7,009-foot mountain in the Sourdough Mountains of Mount Rainier National Park, rising above the Sunrise area and drawing hikers on a trail that begins in the Sunrise Historic District and climbs into open country above tree line. Named in 1932 for Tacoma businessman and National Guard captain James Henry Dege, it is valued for unusually broad views of nearby glaciers and Little Tahoma Peak. Its marine west coast climate brings heavy rain, deep winter snow, and avalanche danger, while seasonal road access usually limits visits to July through September. Runoff from the mountain flows into the White River.
