One hundred years before May 10, 1970, John Bullard, James Bullard, Andrew Hurlbrut, Joseph Yankie, John Swisshelm, Henry Fuson, Elijah Weeks, and Richard Yeaman made the ride associated with the discovery at this site of silver ore. That discovery led to the opening of the Legal Tender Mine and caused the establishment of the town of Silver City, N.M.
