Otto J. Maha was a lifelong resident of West Dundee whose work and generosity left lasting marks on both the fluid power industry and his community. Educated through night classes at the Lewis Institute of Technology, now the Illinois Institute of Technology, he began a fifty year career at the Parker Hannefin Corporation in 1928 at age 21. In the early years of the fluid power industry, he helped develop fluid power standards and served on a variety of committees focused on fluid technology, and in 1967 he served on the delegation on Industrial Standards and Norms to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. A world-renowned fluid power engineer, he is honored at the Fluid Power Hall of Fame at the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Wisconsin. His legacy also continued through numerous monetary contributions to educational institutions that support the teaching of fluid power technology in their engineering departments, and his generous contribution helped make the West Dundee Riverwalk a community treasure for all to enjoy.
