Five Mile Pass is a high, arid area about 14 miles west of Eagle Mountain in Utah with a long history of overland travel and land use. In 1860 and 1861, the Pony Express crossed this country, and the route later carried stagecoaches and pioneer families traveling west toward Nevada and California. Mining and quarrying also became part of the area’s past. Today, under Bureau of Land Management stewardship, it is a protected area widely used for motocross and other off-highway vehicle recreation, as well as mountain biking, hiking, and camping.
