The Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame in Great Falls is a nonprofit dedicated to honoring Montana’s western heritage, including the cowboy way of life, American Indian cultures, and the wider traditions that shaped the state. Designated by Montana in 2003 and later housed with the C. M. Russell Museum, it developed through state support and fundraising, including a specialty license plate. In 2008, trustees from twelve districts selected fifty-one foundational members whose influence on Montana’s heritage fell between 1860 and 1920. Since then, annual inductees have included individuals, ranches, historic places, and organizations representing a broad view of the state’s identity.
