James Reserve, formally the James San Jacinto Mountains Reserve, is a 29-acre ecological reserve and biological field station in the San Jacinto Mountains near Lake Fulmor in Southern California. Part of the University of California Natural Reserve System, it was purchased in 1966 by the University of California, Riverside, from Harry and Grace James and has since served teaching, research, and ecological monitoring in a protected wilderness setting at about 5,200 feet. The reserve also functions as a testing ground for sensor-based and ecosystem-monitoring technologies, using remote observation and a webcam observatory to support non-intrusive study. Access is by permission only, with on-site lodging for researchers and school groups.
