Altyn Peak, a 7,951-foot mountain in Glacier National Park’s Lewis Range, rises just north of Swiftcurrent Lake and the Many Glacier Hotel, making it a prominent landmark from both. Its current name comes from Dave Greenwood Altyn, a financial backer of a local mine in the late 1800s, and from the nearby short-lived mining town of Altyn at the junction of Canyon Creek and Swiftcurrent Lake. Earlier, the mountain was called Crow Feet Mountain after Crow Foot, remembered as the last chief of the Blackfeet confederacy of tribes. Today it remains a familiar feature in the heavily visited Many Glacier area.
