Turtles have been around for over 200 million years, and today many species face possible extinction because they are hunted for food and medicine. The Asian brown tortoise is the largest tortoise in Asia, often growing to more than 18 inches long. It spends its days burrowed into damp soil in tropical forests, and its range extends from Borneo, Sumatra, and eastern India to South Vietnam and south to Malaysia.
