Sixshooter Peaks are twin sandstone towers in Bears Ears National Monument in southeastern Utah, prominent along State Route 211 near Canyonlands National Park. Rising 6,379 and 6,154 feet and standing about 1.5 miles apart, they tower nearly 1,400 feet above the desert and take their name from their likeness to revolvers pointed skyward. Formed from resistant Wingate Sandstone over softer Chinle and Moenkopi layers, they preserve dunes laid down about 200 million years ago in the Late Triassic. The peaks also became notable climbing destinations after first ascents in 1962 and 1969, and they remain valued for both geology and recreation.
