Alamo Village, north of Brackettville, Texas, began as a full-scale recreation of the Alamo Mission compound and nearby San Antonio de Béxar for the 1960 film The Alamo. Built on James T. “Happy” Shahan’s ranch, it grew from a planned facade set into a substantial complex of completed buildings, requiring more than 1.5 million adobe bricks, miles of road, and a runway. Because the original Alamo stood in modern downtown San Antonio, the site offered filmmakers a usable period landscape and later hosted many additional productions. Shahan preserved it as a major tourist attraction, and it became an important part of Brackettville’s economy before a series of closures left its future uncertain.
