Gratwick Riverside Park is a 53-acre city-owned park along the Niagara River with an ADA-accessible fishing pier, boat launch, soccer and lacrosse fields, nature preserve, pavilions, restroom amenities, and the Riverwalk Trail. The 3-mile multi-use bike and pedestrian trail runs the length of River Road, connecting south to the Empire State Trail into Tonawanda and the Erie Canal Bike Path in North Tonawanda, while north it connects to Wheatfield and Niagara Falls. At its southernmost point, the park includes a municipal marina with 68 boat slips, 17 transient docking spaces, and 44 jet ski docks available for seasonal rent. Improvement efforts follow the vision, goals, and objectives of the Niagara River Greenway Plan, including excellence, accessibility, public well-being, and celebration, and additions such as pavilion #2 and an ADA-accessible restroom trailer have provided more accommodating shared spaces for visitors. The park occupies a Brownfield Site that completed remediation in 2001, and since becoming a public park in 1965 it has undergone considerable restoration including installation of a barrier wall, shoreline stabilization, a soil cap, and pumping and treatment of groundwater. Its nature preserve and walking paths are crucial to wildlife habitat enhancement, especially for bird populations, because the Niagara River corridor is an Important Bird Area critical to avian migration, and the preserve's untouched green space provides safe nesting areas for a variety of bird species.
