Mission Peak, east of Fremont, California, is the northern summit of a ridge in Mission Peak Regional Preserve and one of the southern East Bay’s best-known landmarks, even appearing on Fremont’s logo. Popular for its steep hike and sweeping Bay Area views, it draws large numbers of visitors from nearby urban centers. Its summit features the “Mission Peeker” pole, installed in 1990 by Leonard Page to promote environmental awareness and later restored after vandalism in 2023. The mountain also holds a notable place in hang gliding history, offers varied habitats and wildlife, and reflects both active geologic forces and ongoing local debates over access and parking.
