Powell Butte is a small extinct cinder-cone in Portland, Oregon, part of the Boring Lava Field, a broad cluster of volcanic cones and lava flows formed by monogenetic eruptions tied to regional tectonic forces and subduction beneath North America. Rising a little above 600 feet, it preserves scoria and ash over older deposits and supports meadows, wetlands, forests, and varied wildlife near Johnson Creek. The butte stands within the historic territory of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon. Cleared for orchards by the late 19th century and later used for dairying and water storage, it is now Powell Butte Nature Park, a 612-acre park with trails and mountain views.
