The Pollinatarium at the University of Illinois is a science museum created to raise public awareness of pollination as both an ecological partnership and an essential ecosystem service. Regarded as the first freestanding science center in the United States devoted specifically to pollination and pollinators, it grew out of the university’s original Bee Research Facility and was repurposed for outreach and education in 2009 after a new bee lab was built. Since then, it has served a wide range of visitors through exhibits, school programs, community events, beekeeping activities, and fundraising that support the university’s broader effort to emphasize pollinators’ importance to biodiversity and food production.
