Judge John Perkins's millstones date to 1816. A mill was located 300 feet northwest by 1834. The town was surveyed on June 16, 1836. A post office stood 500 feet north in May 1837. The first Methodist Episcopal Church in Williams County was established here on October 20, 1838.
