Aries is a 6,533-foot summit in Olympic National Park near Mount Olympus, between the Hoh and Humes glaciers, with runoff feeding the headwaters of the Queets and Hoh rivers. Richard Hubley and Edward LaChapelle named it in 1955 during preparations for the International Geophysical Year, following the classical mythology theme used around Mount Olympus. The mountain stands in the western Olympics' marine west coast climate, where Pacific storms bring heavy rain, dense winter snow, and avalanche danger, while summer is usually clearer. Its landscape reflects obducted oceanic crust, sedimentary material, and repeated Pleistocene glaciation that left the surrounding terrain steep and heavily ice-shaped.
