The Chestnut Grove Cemetery Association was incorporated on January 18, 1954, as volunteer trustees to provide for the operation, maintenance, and perpetual care of Chestnut Grove Cemetery. Throughout the forty-three years it operated, the trustees gave selflessly of their time, talents, and resources to ensure the cemetery was operated professionally and that all were treated with compassion and respect. At the time of its gift to the citizens of the town, the association's Board of Trustees included Thom F. Hanes, president; J. Berkley Green, vice president; Ruth M. Updike, secretary-treasurer; Frederic P. Hubert; J. Leroy Jackson; Ellen C. Kephart; W. Michael Kephart; and Howard Benchmin Peck.
