Lake Wyola State Park, also called the Carroll A. Holmes Recreation Area, is a forty-two-acre Massachusetts public recreation area in Shutesbury on the lake’s northwest shore. Acquired in 1997 from Emelia Bennett by the Department of Environmental Management, it was established in honor of Carroll Holmes, a former Shutesbury selectman and a director in DEM’s Region IV. The park offers walking and hiking trails, seasonal snowmobiling and cross-country skiing, restrooms, picnic grounds, and a beach. On the one-hundred-twenty-eight-acre Lake Wyola, visitors can also swim, fish, and boat, making the site an important local destination for year-round outdoor recreation.
