Farley Ledges is a 1,067-foot bluff knoll on the southeast side of Northfield Mountain in Erving, Massachusetts, rising about 700 feet above the village of Farley. Long known as one of western Massachusetts’s climbing areas, it has been used by rock climbers since the 1930s, with access often relying on local knowledge because landowners at times closed the area and discouraged publication of route information. The 110-mile Metacomet-Monadnock Trail crosses the ledges, passing Briggs Brook Falls and routes through the summit area and boulder field. Its enduring importance rests on both its scenery and continued public access secured through careful stewardship and land protection.
