Nevada Cemetery was established in 1906 by the I.O.O.F., the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, which was formed in England in 1748 and used an interlocking chain with three links as its symbol, representing friendship, love, and truth. The organization was based on teachings in the Holy Bible, and the word "Odd" reflected its purpose of helping the less fortunate at a time when few people were concerned for others. The I.O.O.F. was organized in Nevada in 1893 and was disbanded in 1954. Graville Stinibaugh established the town in 1850, and Nevada was fortunate to have such people in its community. Before the tornado that ripped Nevada apart in 1927, the town square had a well in the center, and that well was later reconstructed and still stands in the center of what was once a thriving little town with grocery stores, a pharmacy, and a hardware store. The cemetery is remembered as a peaceful place for those who have gone before, and friends and relatives are gone but not forgotten.
